Our first week of Distance Learning has been centered in connection, care, and access. Within that has been a range of experiences – excitement in seeing classmates and teachers to challenges with technology. As we enter the second week, we will continue to hold our values close with a continued commitment to supporting our most vulnerable students and families. In doing so, all eight elementary schools have been unified in the development of distance learning and are aligned in the implementation – including the weekly schedule for instruction. As a reminder, daily instruction includes two subjects (one core academic lesson and one specialist lesson) with additional supplemental opportunities suggested by the teacher. Please hold grace, patience, and understanding for the teachers as we continue to work together.

Special Education Supports
We recognize that this is a challenging time filled with uncertainty and we value the importance of working closely together with families. If your student has an IEP, the Special Education case manager/teacher will contact you to discuss specific support in distance learning. Our related service providers such as speech–language providers, along with case managers, will support classroom teachers in reviewing how content can have accommodations or modifications applied to be appropriate for students’ needs. Please be assured that your student’s IEP will remain in effect and their regular IEP services will resume when the school closure ends and a regular school day can resume.
Kindergarten Online Registration begins May 1, Student Transfers Postponed
Children who will be 5 years old as of September 1, 2020, are eligible to enroll in kindergarten at the school in their boundary area for the 2020-21 school year. Typically, families are asked to register in person at their neighborhood school. This year, the registration process has moved online. Information about online registration and what to expect during kindergarten is available on the district website at https://bit.ly/CSDKinder
Once families have submitted information through the online process, our school office staff will be in contact by phone to confirm the enrollment is complete.
An additional change is the postponement of the student transfer window. For those families who are interested in the non-boundary school option (Franklin) or requesting a transfer to another school, transfer openings and the transfer request process will be announced in mid-June.
